Using Drupal as Intranet

As a lecture in Royal Thimphu College  , i was in need to have intranet site for the students to upload the documents, to post the notes, publishing announcement and also to organised the events. At the same time, i would like to students to register for having the micro blogging. Looking all these need, i prepare to move on with Drupal. Its cool and awesome. But the problem i am facing is that, its version are changing and the modules may not be available some time because fo its version comp ability. Now i am looking for some Drupal distribution or  packages for the college intranet. I found one of the very famouse drupal distribution called Open Atrium. Let me try it and have a word for it very soon. If you folks have any suggestion, please do have it.
